What is PRF?

What is PRF

Platelet Rich Fibrin!

  1. Derived from your blood
  2. Simple and cost-effective process
  3. No biochemical handling of the blood
  4. Release of growth factors for 10 days
  5. Supportive effect on the immune system
  6. Leads to accelerated soft tissue and bone healing

PRF is a fibrin clot with high concentration of platelets and white blood cells. This fibrin clot will gradually release growth factors which stimulates tissue regeneration, promotes angiogenesis, stimulates cell migration, and increases cell proliferation.

Facial aging is a complex process and overall still not yet fully understood. We start to lose volume in our face-under our eyes, cheeks, and around our mouth, starting in our 30s. Later on in our 40s, 50s, our skin and muscles start to stretch from loss of collagen and elastin. Currently, there are a myriad of surgical-free options to choose from, including, dermal fillers, thread lifts, lasers, PRP and now a new all-natural solution called platelet-rich fibrin (PRF).

PRF is an all-natural solution that can treat common areas that show the first signs of aging, like under-eye hollows and deflated cheeks. Platelet-rich fibrin contains very high concentrations of white blood cells, fibrin and a small amount of stem cells found circulating in our bloodstreams. PRF becomes a gel after 15-20 minutes of being isolated and immediately upon being injected into the face or body. This allows it to be used for cosmetic volume restoration. Plus can be added to other dermal fillers.

Who is a good candidate for PRF?

Most people are good candidates for treatment because you are using your own natural blood products to heal and rejuvinate.

What are some of the reasons patients ask for this procedure?

Volume deficient areas of the face: under eyes, corners of the mouth, temples, lips… Hair loss, hair preservation Wrinkles and fine lines Tissue rejuvenation, brown spots (face, neck, decollete) Symmetry adjustment Joint pain

How long do the results last?

PRF is performed in a series of treatments, spaced 6-8 weeks apart. Results typically last 1-3 weeks and the volume will essentially dissipate. However, long-term effects, such as skin tightening, collagen production and enhanced skin quality, may take up to 3-4 months to be noticed and can last from 6-12 months. The visibility of expected benefits and results of the PRF treatment is typically seen after 6 weeks from initial treatment.

What are the benefits of a PRF treatment for the face versus dermal fillers?

Injectable fillers serve the single purpose of addressing volume deficiency, while PRF does give temporary volume enhancement, the purpose of PRF injections is highly directed toward skin rejuvenation: skin tightening, improved skin texture and quality, and collagen stimulation.
