QuantumRF Explained: How It Works, Areas Treated, and What to Expect

QuantumRF is one of the newer radiofrequency treatments available for skin tightening and non-surgical fat reduction. Because it works below the surface of the skin rather than through it, it is often confused with other radiofrequency devices. This guide answers the questions clients ask most, in plain language, and explains how the treatment is used at Enrichment Skin Solutions.

The short answer

QuantumRF is a minimally invasive radiofrequency technology on the Luxora platform, FDA cleared for soft tissue contraction. A small cannula delivers pulses of energy to the layer of tissue beneath the skin, without damaging the dermis above it. On the body it reduces fat and tightens skin. On the face it contracts the soft tissue in the jowls and under the chin. Whether it is right for a given person is decided at an in-person consultation with Michael Johnson, MA, FNP-BC.

What is QuantumRF?

QuantumRF is a treatment technology, not a stand-alone machine. It runs on the Luxora platform, which is the radiofrequency system in the clinic. It is FDA cleared for use in dermatological and general surgical procedures where soft tissue contraction is needed.

The key difference from most radiofrequency skin-tightening devices is where the energy is delivered. Surface devices heat the skin from the outside in. QuantumRF places the energy underneath the skin, in the subdermal layer, where structural support is lost with age and after weight change.

How does QuantumRF work?

A thin cannula is placed just beneath the skin. It delivers bipolar pulsed fractional radiofrequency energy to the subdermal layer. That controlled heat does two things at once. It causes existing collagen and connective tissue to contract, which produces an immediate tightening effect, and it prompts the body to build new collagen over the following months. On body areas, the same energy also reduces fat in the treated zone.

The Luxora platform monitors the tissue continuously while it treats, using temperature and impedance feedback to keep the energy at a safe, effective level. Because the energy is delivered internally rather than through the surface, there is less risk of the skin discoloration that can follow more aggressive surface treatments.

What areas can QuantumRF treat?

On the body, QuantumRF is used on the stomach, arms, chest, knees, and the inner and outer thighs. On the face, it is used on the jowls and the submental area under the chin.

The best fit for any one area is determined at a consultation, because it depends on how much of what you are seeing is loose skin, how much is fat, and how the tissue underneath is behaving.

Does QuantumRF reduce fat?

Yes. On body areas, QuantumRF reduces fat in addition to tightening the skin. It does not eliminate fat or produce a guaranteed amount of loss, and results vary from person to person.

Is QuantumRF surgery?

No. QuantumRF is minimally invasive. Energy is delivered through a small cannula, and no incision is made and no tissue is removed the way it is in a surgical facelift, neck lift, or tummy tuck. It is an option for people who are not seeking surgery. It is not a claim of facelift-equivalent results, and a large amount of excess skin is still a surgical problem.

Does QuantumRF hurt?

The treated area is numbed with tumescent lidocaine, which is a local anesthetic. Non-opioid pain medication and Pro-Nox, a self-administered nitrous oxide, are available during the visit if needed. Your specific comfort plan is set at your consultation.

What is the downtime after QuantumRF?

Downtime can be up to 10 days, depending on the area treated. This is a minimally invasive treatment, not a no-downtime one. Expect some swelling, bruising, and tenderness in the days after treatment, with the treated area feeling firm or tight as new collagen begins to form. Your provider will give you specific aftercare instructions.

When will I see results, and how long do they last?

Some tightening can be seen immediately, because the tissue contracts during treatment. Best results are usually noticeable after about 6 months, as collagen rebuilds, and improvement can continue for up to 12 months. Results are not permanent, and the skin continues to age.

How is QuantumRF different from Morpheus8?

They are two different technologies on the same Luxora platform. QuantumRF works below the dermis, in the subdermal layer. Morpheus8 Burst is a fractional radiofrequency microneedling treatment that works from the surface into the dermis. At Enrichment Skin Solutions the two are performed in the same visit because they treat different layers. See our full comparison of QuantumRF and Morpheus8 for more detail.

Is QuantumRF right for me?

That is a clinical decision. A defined set of medical considerations applies to this treatment, and eligibility is determined by Michael Johnson, MA, FNP-BC at an in-person consultation, not from a web page or a self-assessment.

Does QuantumRF work on all skin tones?

Deeper skin tones, Fitzpatrick type VI and darker type V, are treated with added caution, following manufacturer guidance. This is not a full statement of who is or is not suitable. Michael confirms this at the consultation.

Where can I get QuantumRF near me?

Enrichment Skin Solutions is in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, and serves the west and southwest Twin Cities metro, including Maple Grove, Plymouth, Wayzata, Minnetonka, Edina, and Eden Prairie. The consultation is complimentary and in person.
