Have you looked in the mirror and noticed that your skin isn’t as smooth or luminous as you’d like? When you’re ready to revitalize your complexion and restore your skin’s natural glow, schedule your appointment for intense pulsed light.
Near Maple Grove, Michael and Kris Johnson offer personalized aesthetic treatments at Enrichment Skin Solutions, helping their clients achieve their healthiest, most radiant skin. We are not your typical med spa—we are an aesthetics clinic with an extensive medical background.
What Is IPL?
Intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy uses non-invasive, regenerative technology to address skin texture, tightness, and tone to refresh and renew your appearance. At Enrichment, we recommend the Lumecca device by InMode. This device delivers up to 3x more energy than traditional IPL tools for stronger, more efficient treatment.
How IPL Works
When applied to the skin, the device emits broad-spectrum light, which your pigmented skin cells absorb. These cells convert the light energy into thermal energy, addressing the following concerns while leaving the surrounding tissue unharmed:
- Sun spots, hyperpigmentation, and freckles: The thermal energy breaks up dark spots, which the body naturally eliminates by shedding them off. This helps create a more even complexion.
- Spider veins: When red blood cells absorb IPL thermal energy, vein walls collapse, halting blood flow and prompting the body to reabsorb these vessels.
IPL also reaches the dermis layer to activate the body’s natural healing response. This stimulates the production of collagen and elastin—proteins responsible for skin strength and elasticity.
Who Is the Ideal Candidate for IPL and Who Is Not?
We recommend an IPL photofacial to clients seeking a noninvasive, regenerative approach to sun damage, vascular concerns, and other signs of aging.
To ensure patient safety and comfort, we do not recommend intense pulsed light near Maple Grove for the following reasons:
- Currently pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Active skin infections, severe acne, or open wounds near the treatment site.
- Photosensitive conditions, such as light-induced seizures, or taking isotretinoin-based medications, such as Accutane.
- Excess sun exposure or sunburns within 1 month of their appointment.
While Lumecca is safe for all skin types on the Fitzpatrick Skin-Type Chart, we recommend a test patch for medium-to-deep skin tones to ensure optimal results and skin safety.
Unsure of your eligibility? Schedule an appointment with the Enrichment Skin Solutions team. If we advise against intense pulsed light therapy, our providers can recommend alternate treatments, such as Morpheus8 or a hydradermabrasion facial.

How Is IPL Different From Laser Treatment?
Unlike IPL photofacials, laser treatments use a single, focused light beam, rather than broad-spectrum light.
Laser resurfacing is a more focused, concentrated treatment that typically requires fewer sessions than IPL. However, because these devices use a single laser wavelength, they can only address one specific skin concern at a time.
IPL photofacials can address a range of aesthetic concerns during a single session, offering clients a more comprehensive approach to skin rejuvenation. Intense pulsed light therapy is more comfortable for patients as well and requires minimal downtime.
While both IPL and laser treatments have their benefits, IPL offers a more versatile, comfortable, and efficient option, making it an attractive choice for many patients seeking overall skin rejuvenation.
